Administrative / biographical background:

This school was built in 1895 under a scheme of the Charity Commissioners with money supplied by Sir Joseph Verdin, bart. The premises housed both a day school and evening classes. The original name of Verdin Technical School was changed to Verdin Higher Elementary School in August 1906. In 1925 the school became a secondary school and a new governing body was appointed, The name was changed from Verdin County School to Verdin Grammar School in 1935.
